Online Video Advertising (OLV)

Online Video Advertising: Beyond the TV Commercial

Video advertising has become an increasingly important part of successful digital marketing strategy in the last 5 to 10 years. While commercials have long played a part in generating and attracting new customers, modern video advertising uses information about audience behaviors and preferences to more intentionally target prospects online.

Online video advertising, or OLV, refers to video advertisements within a video online. OLVs can be:

  • Between 15-60 seconds
  • Skippable or non-skippable
  • Sponsored or non-sponsored
  • Used on websites, apps, or social media platforms
  • Played before, during, or after the main video

Pre-Roll and Mid Roll

On video sharing platforms like YouTube and Vimeo, ads can be displayed before or mid-content. Ads that are played before the main video are called pre-roll; ads that are played during the main video are called mid-roll.
